Layman's Summary: We showed reconditioning or at least extension of mineral matrix adsorbance capacity using plants. In this case it was an halophyte-zeolite system and enhanced sodium adsorption, i.e. a natural process to reduce sodium concentration in water. but in another case it could be a different plant-high capacity adsorbant pair and target adsorptant, for example P-accumulating plant /P-adsorbant matrix (water treatment residual). It is a different mechanism than leaching, which was shown previously in Europe, Egypt (different plants), India (with the same plant).
